Andrew Kirmse

Andrew Kirmse is a Principal Engineer at Google, where he is responsible for the development of Google Earth, including large image, geometry, and vector processing systems, enterprise products, and the KML standard. Previously he contributed to Google Desktop and Google Maps. His current research interest is personalized location-based services.

Andrew spent 10 years in the videogame industry, where he co-authored Meridian 59, the first 3D massively-multiplayer online game, and served as an editor for the Game Programming Gems series of books. He holds undergraduate degrees in physics, theoretical mathematics, and computer science, and a masters degree in computer science, from MIT. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi.
